Google Analytics 4 API: reports and administration with AI agents
Google Analytics 4 has the Data API for pulling reports, the Admin API for managing properties and the Measurement Protocol for sending events from your server. Marketing, product and data teams use these APIs to feed metrics into dashboards and automations. Access is through OAuth or a service account with permission on the property.
What the Google Analytics API offers
Reports (Data API)
Query metrics and dimensions, such as sessions, conversions and source, over a period.
Realtime
See users and events from the last few minutes.
Administration (Admin API)
Manage properties, data streams, key events and access.
Measurement Protocol
Send events from the server, such as sales confirmed in the back end.
Metadata
List the available metrics and dimensions, including custom ones.
How to access the Google Analytics API
- With your company’s credentialsOAuth 2.0, or a Google Cloud service account added as a user on the GA4 property. The Measurement Protocol uses an API secret from the data stream.
- The Data API has quotas per property, so the agent batches its queries.
- Grant viewer permission; edits through the Admin API only with approval.
- Do not send personally identifiable information to GA4, in line with Google's policies.

What an iTeam agent does with the Google Analytics API
Ask GA4 in Slack
A manager asks where this week's sales came from, and the agent queries the Data API and answers with numbers.
Traffic drop detected
The agent compares the day with the average and warns when a channel or page falls outside the normal range.
Back-end sale in GA4
Orders confirmed in the ERP are sent through the Measurement Protocol, closing the funnel.
Property audit
The agent reviews key events, filters and retention and lists what is out of line.
From the credential to the agent at work, with approval
Grant access to the property
Enable the API in Google Cloud, create the service account and add it as a viewer on the GA4 property.
Store the access and limit what each agent does
The Google Analytics access is registered in the iTeam vault. You choose which agents use it and what they can do (query reports, read realtime), with a cost ceiling and a record of every call.
Run the pilot with approval
In the pilot, ask for yesterday's visits and compare them with the GA4 interface. The team approves sensitive actions and follows the call history in iTeam.

Questions about the Google Analytics API
Is the Google Analytics API free?
The GA4 APIs are free within the quotas of a standard property; GA4 360 has higher quotas.
Do I need to write code to use the Google Analytics API with iTeam?
Not necessarily. The iTeam deployment team sets up the Google Analytics access and each agent's actions from the documentation; IT only releases the credential and reviews the permissions.
Do the API numbers match the interface?
Generally yes, as long as you use the same metrics, dimensions and period. Sampling and cardinality limits can cause small differences.
