Trello API: what it can do and how to use it with AI agents
The Trello REST API, from Atlassian, gives access to boards, lists, cards and members. Project, operations and marketing teams use it to create and move cards from other systems. Access is with an API key and a user token.
What the Trello API offers
Boards
Create, read and configure boards and their members.
Lists
Manage the columns that organize the workflow.
Cards
Create, edit and move cards, and manage due dates, labels and comments.
Checklists and attachments
Checklist items and files linked to cards.
Webhooks
Notifications when boards or cards change.
Search
Find cards and boards by text.
How to access the Trello API
- With your company’s credentialsIt uses an API key tied to a Power-Up or app, plus a token generated with the user's authorization, which defines which boards can be accessed.
- There are request limits per key and per token.
- The token inherits the user's access: use an integration account with access only to the boards it needs.
- Avoid putting sensitive customer data on shared cards.

What an iTeam agent does with the Trello API
Request becomes a card
Requests that arrive by e-mail or WhatsApp become cards in the right list, with a standard checklist and an owner.
Deadline follow-up
The agent finds overdue cards or cards stalled for days, asks the owner for a status and records the answer as a comment.
Status for the client
On client projects, the agent reads the board and sends a weekly summary of what was done and what comes next.
Board housekeeping
The agent suggests archiving old completed cards and flags cards with no owner or no due date.
From the credential to the agent at work, with approval
Generate a key and token
With a company account, generate the Trello API key and token, preferably for an integration user.
Set boards and permissions
In the iTeam vault, add the credential and indicate on which boards each agent can create, move or only read.
Turn on webhooks and monitor
Enable webhooks on the main boards and follow the first weeks in the iTeam audit trail.
Ready-made AI teams for this work
Management reporting team
Revenue, margin, pipeline and cash in one report, built from your systems, with a short note on what changed and why.
Inventory planning team
Stock, sales and lead times are checked every day. You get a reorder list per SKU and a warning about what is not selling.
Procurement and quotes team
Requests go out to suppliers, quotes come back into one table, and the approver sees price, terms and past orders before saying yes.
Logistics and deliveries team
Routes, drivers and delivery status in one place, with customers told about delays before they have to ask.
Questions about the Trello API
Is the Trello API free?
Yes, in general the API is available on every plan, but features such as automations and some limits depend on the plan.
Do I need to code to use the Trello API with iTeam?
No. iTeam connects to Trello, and the deployment team sets up boards and rules with you.
Can the agent delete cards?
Only if you allow it. The recommended default is to archive, which can be undone.
